Michael Brown
Executive Director

Michael specialises in Australia’s regulatory regime with particular expertise in taxation and superannuation.
He has over 30 years experience as a tax professional. He has been Head of Tax at BT Funds Management, MLC and Perpetual. Michael has also performed a number of business unit roles including CFO. His specialties include:

• Effective product design within regulatory constraints
• After-tax performance analysis
• Offshore funds being offered in Australia
• Unit pricing and rectifications
• Product rationalisation

Michael is known for his comprehensive knowledge of the technical side of the financial services industry and his innovative solutions to business problems.

Michael has been an industry leader in funds management. He has twice been appointed by the Government to Expert Panels advising the Board of Taxation on tax reform for managed funds. He has chaired various Groups for the Financial Services Council including GST Implementation and Product Rationalisation. He has served on their Superannuation Committee and their Economic, Savings and Tax Committee.

Michael is also past chair of the Taxation Institute’s International Committee. He has served on the ATO’s Finance and Investment Subcommittee, its Foreign Source Income Subcommittee and its Trusts Liaison Group. He was on Treasury’s Review of International Tax Arrangements Advisory Group.

Michael has completed a Bachelor of Economics in Accounting at Macquarie University and a Master of Laws at the University of Sydney.
